The Brown Recluse Spider lives up to it's name; it is both brown and reclusive. Adult brown recluse spiders are light brown in color, except for a darker, violin-shaped marking on the back, immediately behind its eyes. Young brown recluse spiders don't usually have this marking. It develops as the spider does.
While most spiders have 8 eyes, the brown recluse spider has 6 eyes, arranged in three pairs of two.
Although recluse, the brown recluse should be considered a hunting spider. The female will build a web to assist in catching prey, but the male in particular will roam in search of prey.
Brown recluse spiders rest during the day, and are more active at night. They like to rest mainly on wooden surfaces such as inside furniture, cardboard boxes, and in crawl spaces and attics.
